The TOP 190 Kiln in daily workshop life
Share post
Planing, preparation and finishing
A new kiln in a ceramic studio is always something big at first. You dive into details, compare different options, learn and test.
And then the moment comes, where it simply runs alongside your work - calm, reliable and without any unexpected results.
I don’t take this moment for granted, more as a big gift in everyday production.
And this is exactly what I would like to talk about in this blogpost: all the things I particularly appreciate about the TOP 190 by Nabertherm - during planning, preparations and after the firing.

Planning - from the initial plan to the finished piece
Most of the time, my day starts quite unspectacular. A quick look on my phone, before I’m even fully awake. Not for messages - but for my kiln.
Especially on busy days, the App feels like a real gift. Thanks to the Nabertherm App, I can immediately see, where the firing is at and what temperature the kiln is at. Is it already cooling down? Then I know: I can take my time and relax. Is it still running? Then I’ll plan my day around it.
It sounds like something small but it makes a huge difference in my daily business and life.
I plan my work more consciously, with more lead time and gain more freedom at the end. The kiln is giving me a rhythm, that helps me orientating and structuring my day.
Preparations - order, clarity and calm
What I love most about my TOP 190 by Nabertherm is:
The large diameter of the kiln shelves. My plates have plenty of space, nothing needs to be squeezed in - and that alone takes a lot of tension out of the preparation process. Especially when working on series, it's a real gift.
Also the interior space gives me more room to work. I can immediately see, what I do, place pieces cleanly and have a good and clear overview. And if it’s ever necessary, I can even move the kiln, which gives me more flexibility while keeping it all organized.
All of this makes the preparation feels less hectic and much more intentional.
Firing - when technology creates confidence
One major advantage in my daily life is the controller. It’s logically designed, easy to understand and does, what it’s supposed to do - without unnecessary bells and whistles. Once the kiln is running, I still have everything under control - even when I’m away. Thanks to the Nabertherm App.
What does that give me? Trust.
I know, the kiln works reliably, energy-efficiently and delivers consistent results. All of this takes the tension out of the firing process. I am more relaxed, can let the process flow and gain more confidence with trying larger series, new materials and more complex forms.
During those hours, when the kiln is working and there’s nothing more I can do, I’m repeatedly reminded of how much is already invested in each individual piece: hours of creating it at the wheel or worktable, long drying times, many decisions, small corrections and sometimes doubts. Plus everything you can’t really measure: focus, experience and passion - and often all the energy you put into every little detail after long days.
That’s why it’s even more important for me, that the firing doesn’t become a source of uncertainty. The kiln is the final step in this long process. When I place my pieces inside, I want to know, that everything I have created and invested, is in good hands - and that the results will ultimately reflect, what I envisioned while working.

Finishing - when everything comes together
Opening the kiln is always exciting.
But I does feel different today, than it used to. The clarity after the firing is now one of my greatest values in my daily workshop life. It gives me confidence, saves energy and allows me to move into the next step of my work with a good feeling.
Yours Anna Maria
